Is Cedar Wood an Option for the Saunas?

Due to the rising prices and scarcity of Western Red Cedar, cedar saunas are no longer available. All Sauna models are available in either Mahogany or Basswood.

Mahogany is a beautiful wood with a little more grain but a very similar color to cedar and is already used to make quality furniture. It also meets all of the same criteria as cedar for sustainability and no VOCs etc. etc. You can’t really tell the difference in color and it is a little harder and so will fare better with scratches and dings.

North American Basswood is a “white” wood with a yellow to whitish color. Basswood has a very dense cellular structure making it stronger, more stable and sweat resistant. It is also resistant to cracking and splitting. Basswood is also considered hypoallergenic. It has almost no odor and is one of the only woods not considered a “sensitizer” for people with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities.
